International Flights

NOTE: If you wish to vary from the schedule of flights, rest periods, destinations, given to you by the Overseas Administration Team, then you will need to negotiate these differences, and may be required in some cases to add a personal fee.

The Overseas Administration Team (OAT) will arrange and pay for flights for you to get to Post. You, and applicable family,  will be booked Business Class using one of the approved Defence travel providers.

Acquitting Travel

If you are paid a Travel Advance by Defence Travel for rest periods or excess baggage, keep these receipts along with taxi receipts to and from airport and acquit this travel advance with your Post administration staff.

Best Fares of The Day

Under Finance rules, Defence uses the best fare of the day rules. These fares may be better than you are able to find on Carrier Websites as Defence has agreements with certain Carriers

Defence Travel Cards

All allowances and entitlements are paid through the Defence Finance system by the OAT so you should not need to use your Defence Travel Card.

NOTE: DO NOT USE your Defence Travel Card. UK Post recommends that you have your DTC for emergencies, but any use of it must be via pre-approval from Post admin staff.

Baggage Entitlements

Each member / employee and their dependant will bring baggage. Entitlements depend on the provider, but is generally about 40kg each person in Business Class. In essence, this really allow you to take a functioning wardrobe rather than the beginnings of a move. Military members are highly encouraged to ensure this also covers working dress, office dress and mess function dress as it may be weeks until the Airlift arrives.

To Consider

YOU CAN TAKE:- 1 Suitcase (Meeting total weight guidelines)- 1 Carry On (Meeting Weight guidelines)

You are able to apply for excess baggage up to a maximum total of 45kg PRIOR to travel from the OAT.

Rest Periods

As flights from Australia to the UK covers more than four time zones and covers travelling time  of more than 12 hours, travellers are entitled to a rest period of between 12 and 24 hours. The Destination and duration of the rest period is determined by the Overseas Administration Team who will do the booking – a negotiation about flight times, rest periods and destinations is possible through the OAT, but may incur personal costs.
